Acting on behalf of the Black Stars, the GFA settled hospital debts so 16 new mothers could finally take their babies home from Korle Bu.
Ghana football just delivered one of its most meaningful wins away from the pitch. Acting on behalf of the Black Stars, the Ghana Football Association paid GHS 84,000 in outstanding medical bills, freeing 16 mothers who had been stuck at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after giving birth.
GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku led a delegation from the Executive Council and other officials to the hospital on Friday, November 6, 2026, to make the payment in person. Executive Council Member Samuel Aboabire and Eugene Noel Nobel were part of the group, along with members of the Black Stars technical team. Brong Ahafo Regional FA Chairman Dr Charles Antoh was also there.
For the women, the debt meant more than a bill. Some had been at the facility for up to three months, others for at least a week. Their inability to pay kept them from their families and from home life with their newborns. With the balance cleared, all 16 left the hospital with their babies.
The mothers responded with prayers and warm wishes for President Simeon-Okraku, the delegation and the Black Stars, and hoped the national team would do well in its upcoming international matches. The gesture is a strong example of football giving back to the communities that back it.
