Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan sets records straight on his political ambition

Ghana international Asamoah Gyan has finally addressed reports linking him to a career in politics.

The former Sunderland star has been touted as a possible surprise entry into his country Parliament.

This follows his numerous philanthropic works carried out across the country, including constructing a road in the Weija-Gbawe constituency in Ghana’s capital, Accra.

However, the 34-year-old said he has no interest in entering into politics, adding that he’s grateful that people appreciate his deeds.

"I’m happy that people are grateful for what I have done. I said earlier that people want me to become their MP. The most important thing is that people are happy with what I have done,” Gyan told Accra-based Adom FM.

"Talking about politics anything can happen, but for now politics is not on my mind.”

Gyan also revealed that constituents in the area have appealed to him to venture into politics and represent them in Parliament.

Although the striker said he is currently not keen on becoming a politician, he refused to rule out venturing to politics in the future.

“Sometimes the people choose you, people can choose you to lead them. When the roads were going on plus other projects, many people were urging me to lead them as their MP,” he noted

"Some people did not plan to do politics but at the end of the day they are doing politics which is a normal thing."

Gyan started his career with Ghanaian side Liberty Professionals and has played for the likes of Udinese, Stade Rennes, and Al Ain.
