Ghana To Host CANA Zone 2 Swimming Championship In March

Africa's first country in the Sub Sahara to have gained independence and situated on the coast of the Gulf of Guinea, Ghana, is set to host the7th Africa Zone 2 Swimming Championship in Accra in March 2020.

The three day competition, will be held between March 5 and March 8, 2020 at the untra-modern Olympic standard swimming arena, the Trust Sports Emporium Olympic Pool inside the Bukom Boxing Arena.

The 1500 seating capacity pool will have swimming and open water competitions between the 27 African countries who have confirmed their participation.

The 7thAfrica Zone 2 Swimming Championships will be organized in a 50 meter swimming pool with ten (10) lanes.

Nigeria, Niger, Mali, Togo, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, Senegal, Liberia, The Gambia, Central African Republic, Gabon, DR Congo, Congo, Sierra Leone, Benin, Cape Cerde, Cote D’Ivoire, Chad and Cameroon are among countries who have confirmed their participation.

President of the Ghana Swimming Federation, Theophilus Edzie, says, Ghana, having to host the competition, "It’s credit to our determination."

Speaking to the media, General Secretary of the Ghana Swimming Federation, Muniru Kassim, mentioned that, team Ghana is ready and looking forward to winning medals and qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

“We hope to use this competition as a springboard to launch Ghana swimming to their Ghanaian populace and we hope to grow from here,” - Kassim, noted.

All athletes will be presented with certificates of participation, while the first three (3) ranked swimmers of every event will get medals.

The CANA Zone 2 Swimming Championships will also serve as a qualifying event for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
