The GFA wants the Black Stars' Somalia qualifier moved to Essipong in the Western Region, even though official word currently points to Accra.
Ghana's road to AFCON 2027 has a home-soil puzzle to solve: which stadium gets the Somalia clash? The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is lobbying for the Essipong Sports Stadium in the Western Region to stage the qualifier, taking the Black Stars away from their usual Accra base.
Acting National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General Professor Emmanuel Osei Sarpong confirmed that both options are on the table. The Accra Sports Stadium and Essipong could each host the game, he said, and a final call will come after stakeholders meet.
On paper, Accra is still the venue. Osei Sarpong revealed that the NSA has received official correspondence naming the Accra Sports Stadium for the opening match. The GFA, however, is pushing hard for a switch to Essipong, so the decision is far from settled.
The tie is played over two legs, both expected in Ghana. The first is set for Thursday, November 12, and the second follows on November 16. With kickoff approaching, the venue decision will shape preparations for a pair of games Ghana will want to control on home turf.
