Ghanaian-born Tariq Lamptey equals Harry Kane's Premier league record

Tariq Lamptey wrote himself into the Premier League history books as he he played for Brighton & Hove Albion in their 0-0 Premier League draw with Leicester City on Tuesday.

The Anglo-Ghanaian youngster was handed his first start and the 19-year-old showed tremendous courage against a Leicester team flying high in third place.

And after featuring against the Foxes, Lamptey became the first teenager to play in the Premier League for two separate teams in the same season - equaling Harry Kane's record in the 2012-13 season.

The former England youth international may stand at just 5ft 4in but he displayed a toughness that shows he can cope with the physicality of the Premier League.

Lamptey, who joined Brighton and Hove Albion from Chelsea for £3m last January, had only made his Premier League debut for the Blues a month earlier in their 2-1 win over Arsenal, but the 19-year-old decided to leave for increased playing opportunities.

And almost six months later, he was handed a start by Graham Potter as Brighton travelled to Leicester on Tuesday evening, and the Seagulls fans watching at home will be impressed with what they saw.

Despite facing the likes of James Maddison, Kelechi Iheanacho and Premier League top scorer Jamie Vardy, Lamptey was highly impressive throughout as Brighton managed to keep a rare clean sheet on the road.

After the game, Brighton boss Potter paid tribute to the youngster.

"Tariq Lamptey is a top boy," Potter said. "He made his debut and carried on with a massive cut.

"He was outstanding, a great character and good on the ball. He has a big future ahead of him. He has pace, is strong on the ball and will get better.

"We are still fighting, we have to fight all the way. We have to focus on the next match against Manchester United and we can use the time to recover. From the last two games, you can see we are ready for the fight."
