Ghana's Derrick Kwatei Quartey earns the biggest nod of his career as Reserve Assistant Referee for the Morocco vs Angola Futsal AFCON final in Rabat.
Ghanaian officiating has a new reason to celebrate. Derrick Kwatei Quartey has been named Reserve Assistant Referee for the Futsal AFCON final between hosts Morocco and Angola, the first major final of his refereeing career.
The showpiece takes place in Rabat on October 21, 2026, with kickoff set for 20:00 local time (19:00 GMT). It is a huge stage for Quartey, and a proud moment for Ghana on the continental scene.
He will join a pan-African team of match officials. Tunisia's Abdelakram El Hentati leads the crew as Referee, with South Africa's Sipho Machbeth Mahlangu serving as Referee 2 and Cameroon's Eric Elingui Mindjih as Referee 3. Libya's Mohammed Alsertawi completes the lineup as Time Keeper.
The appointment is another milestone in Quartey's rise through African refereeing and shows the trust placed in Ghanaian officials at the highest level. The Ghana Football Association's communications team announced the news, and expect plenty of congratulations to follow as the final approaches.
