Heart of Lions are hunting a new coach after Kasim Gokyildiz walked away eight games into the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
The Ghana Premier League has lost a coach already. Turkish tactician Kasim Gokyildiz has resigned as head coach of Heart of Lions after only eight matches of the 2026/27 campaign, leaving the Kpando-based side searching for direction early.
The numbers explain the pressure. Lions have taken just eight points from their opening eight fixtures, with a single win, and sit only one point clear of the relegation zone. In a league where margins are razor-thin, that kind of start leaves little room to breathe.
Gokyildiz came back to Ghana ahead of the season on a one-year deal with an option to renew. He took over after the exit of veteran Ghanaian coach Bashir Hayford, whose contract ran out at the end of his spell at the club. The new man's stint, though, has ended almost before it began. The former King Faisal, Bechem United and Hohoe United boss has now stepped aside.
That puts the ball firmly in the court of Lions' management. They must find a coach who can steady the ship, lift performances and pull the club away from the bottom end of the table. It is another leadership change in a testing campaign, and with the season still young, the next appointment could define whether Lions fight for survival or find their feet.
