Hamilton Hopes for Smooth Mercedes Farewell in Abu Dhabi

Lewis Hamilton hopes to have a problem free-outing at the Formula 1 season finale in Abu Dhabi this weekend when his 11-year stint with Mercedes comes to an end.

The seven-time world champion endured a series of problems during Sunday’s Qatar Grand Prix which included a time penalty for a false start, before suffering a front-left puncture after running over some debris.

He was then given a drive-through penalty for speeding in the pit lane and at some stage contemplated retiring from the race which was ultimately rejected by his team.

Hamilton went on to finish the race in 12th place, making it the first time he finished outside of the points this season.

“I’m still standing, it’s not how you fall, it’s how you get back up, so I’ll get back up and give it another shot next week,” the 39-year-old was quoted on the F1 website.

“I think what’s important is that we turn up and give it our best shot.”

Hamilton will be looking towards a fresh start in his F1 career when he switches Mercedes for Ferrari next year.
