Asante Kotoko's interim boss says a 1-1 stalemate in Obuasi robbed his side of three points in the Ghana Premier League.
Ghana's top-flight chase keeps getting more intense, and Asante Kotoko are making it clear they expect more from themselves and from the league. Interim head coach Hamza Obeng believes the Porcupine Warriors were denied a win after a 1-1 draw with FC Ashantigold at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The week eight clash renewed one of the Ghana Premier League's fiercest rivalries, and it delivered. Both sides found the net in an end-to-end contest, and in the end the Miners and Kotoko each took a point home.
Obeng did not hide his frustration afterwards. He said the result was not fair, and that Kotoko had done enough to earn all three points. He felt his players began well by building patiently from the back, but lost their way at times in the first half. The halftime talk, he said, made the difference, and Kotoko came out stronger after the break, controlling possession and creating chances.
Still, the coach accepted the positives. A draw, he noted, is better than a defeat, and his focus is already on the next fixture, where he wants his team to go all out for maximum points.
With Obuasi behind them, Kotoko now head back to Kumasi. After a match they feel got away, the pressure is on to turn that second-half momentum into a win.
