Henry Steps Down as The French Olympic Team Coach

Thierry Henry has resigned as coach of the French Olympic team for personal reasons, the French Football Federation announced on Monday.

The local football federation revealed that Henry, a world champion with his country's national team as a player in 1998, who was bound by a contract until June 2025, made this decision "for reasons that are allegedly personal to him."

"I would like to thank the French Football Federation and its president Philippe Diallo for giving me this wonderful opportunity," Henry was quoted as saying in a statement.

"Winning the silver medal for my country at the Olympic Games will remain the greatest pride of my life. I am very indebted to the federation, the players, the technical staff and the fans of the team who gave me the opportunity to live a magical experience," he added.

In return, the statement added that Diallo "thanked Thierry Henry for the great work he did as head of the Olympic team's technical staff."

"Of course, we regret this decision because Thierry Henry succeeded in achieving the goal we set for him by winning the silver medal at the Olympic Games for the first time in 40 years and the gold medal at the Los Angeles Olympics," he continued.

The former French international star led France to win the silver medal at the Olympics by reaching the final scene before losing to the Spanish team (3-5) after extra time in the final match.
