Jamzie Olawale opts out of 2020 NFL season due to COVID-19

Cowboys fullback Jamize Olawale has opted out of the 2020 NFL season due to COVID-19 concerns.

Olawale, an eight-year veteran, joins CB Maurice Canday and WR Stephen Guidry as players who have chosen to sit out the season.

According to reports, Odewale has voluntarily decided to sit because of his family, as he doesn’t want to risk playing and contracting the virus despite the numerous testing measures in place by the Cowboys.

Olawale, who spent the last two seasons with the Cowboys, was expected to earn a base salary of $1.05 million. By opting out, he will receive a $150,000 stipend and will not earn an accrued season.

The loss of Olawale means undrafted rookie Sewo Olonilua from TCU will get a chance to showcase his skills in an attempt to make the roster.

The Cowboys have placed cornerback Saivion Smith and wide receiver Jon’Vea Johnson on the NFL’s reserve/COVID-19 list because they tested positive for the virus.
