England's all-time leading wicket-taker will leave Lancashire when his deal expires this year, with no new contract offered for 2027.
Jimmy Anderson is calling time on his long association with Lancashire. The 44-year-old has confirmed he will depart the county when his current contract runs out later this year, after the club chose not to extend his deal into the 2027 season.
Anderson, England's all-time record wicket-taker, has spent a quarter of a century with his home county. He has not said whether he will retire from the game or look for a new club to continue his career.
He marked the moment with a message on Instagram, looking back on a career that began with childhood fandom. "I've supported Lancashire since I was a kid, and so to get to play for them for 25 years was a dream come true," he wrote. He described walking out at Old Trafford as something special, recalling many memories there, including the honour of captaining the side.
The tone of his farewell suggests the decision was not his own. "If it was up to me it wouldn't end like this," he said, hinting at his disappointment over how the partnership is finishing.
With his next move still unannounced, all eyes now turn to whether one of cricket's most durable fast bowlers has another chapter left in him, or whether this is the beginning of the end of a remarkable career.
