Jose Mourinho jabs Bruno Fernandes over penalty record

Share

Even with the Premier League season over, Jose Mourinho is still at his antics of taking subtle swipes at people.

The Tottenham manager guided his side to a fifth place finish in the league, having succeeded Mauricio Pochettino at the helm.

Speaking to the publication Record on how the season went, Mourinho wasted little time in jabbing Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

The Portuguese joked that his compatriot had about 20 penalties to score from, since joining Man United.

“Bruno came in, was fit, played very well, improved the United team and also proved to be a great penalty taker, one of the best in the world, because he had about 20 to score,” Mourinho said.

Fernandes had made a huge impact since swapping Sporting Lisbon for Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old made his debut for the Red Devils in February and has since contributed 10 goals and eight assists in all competitions.

The Portuguese, though, has been described by rival fans as a penalty merchant, with six of his goals coming from the spot.

Fernandes’ opening goal in Man United’s 2-0 win over Leicester on Sunday also came from the spot.

Meanwhile, United fans will not care at all, with the midfielder’s impact steering the club back into the Champions League.
