Journalist who compared Barca’s Ansu Fati to 'black street vendor' apologises

Share

The Spanish journalist who compared Barcelona's Ansu Fati ’s flare and skills on the field with an animal and illegal street vendor fleeing police has apologized.

The journalist, Salvador Sostres' match report after Barcelona’s 5-1 Champions League win over Ferencvaros has been criticized by many.

Griezmann said: "Ansu is an exceptional boy who deserves respect like any human being. No to racism and no to rudeness."

But in a swift response on Thursday, the journalist in an apology published by ABC said that he was attempting to "praise the beauty of Ansu's movements" and was "deeply sorry for any misunderstanding".

Fati is the first player under 18 to score two Champions League goals.

He was born in Guinea-Bissau but represents Spain internationally.

Fati moved to Herrera, Seville, with his family at the age of six, when his older brother Braima signed for Sevilla.  His other brother Miguel is also a footballer.
