Bibiani Gold Stars refused to crack after Heart of Lions leveled, with Abdul Jalilu's late strike sealing a 2-1 win in the Ghana Premier League.
The Ghana Premier League kept showing its competitive edge in matchweek eight, as Bibiani Gold Stars pulled off a gutsy 2-1 victory over Heart of Lions thanks to a late Abdul Jalilu winner.
Kwame Poku put The Miners ahead before Heart of Lions fought back to level the contest. Instead of folding, Bibiani regrouped and kept pushing for the win, with Jalilu delivering the decisive goal in the dying minutes to claim all three points.
Coach Petros Koukouras was candid about his side's performance after the opener. He admitted the team gave Heart of Lions too much room on the pitch once they took the lead, though he felt the opposition did not create clear scoring chances. A second-half formation change, he said, did not bring the benefits he hoped for from the substitutions, and that played a part in the equaliser.
Still, Koukouras saw the goal conceded as a wake-up call. According to the coach, Bibiani totally dominated the game after it went 1-1, even having a goal ruled out for offside and missing several chances before finally getting the breakthrough. For a side chasing consistency in a tight league, that response under pressure could prove just as valuable as the three points themselves.
