Daniel-Kofi Kyereh returns to Ghana's squad after a brutal ACL setback, just in time for the AFCON 2027 qualifying double-header against Somalia.
The Black Stars are getting a familiar creative spark back. Daniel-Kofi Kyereh has been recalled to Ghana's squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Somalia, ending a near four-year absence from the national team.
The 30-year-old attacking midfielder last pulled on the Ghana jersey in December 2022. Two months later, an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered in training at German club Freiburg derailed his momentum. Surgery and a long, grinding recovery followed, keeping him out of competitive football for a prolonged stretch.
Kyereh has fought his way back. After leaving Freiburg as a free agent, he joined VfL Osnabruck, where he has been rediscovering his rhythm. This season he has two goals and one assist in nine appearances, form that has put him back on the national team's radar.
For Ghana's technical team, his return means another creative option in the attacking midfield as they look to tighten up the squad for these important qualifiers. A player with his vision and flair in the final third could be a useful weapon, and the Black Stars will be glad to have him back after such a long wait.
