Kyrie Irving may actually play this season, but not for the Nets

Kyrie Irving has yet to play a single game for the Brooklyn Nets this season. It also doesn’t look like his situation is going to change anytime soon, with no less than New York City’s new mayor making it abundantly clear that the city has no intention of easing up on its current vaccine mandates.
Irving might actually still have a potential season debut date on the horizon. It’s just that it’s not going to be in a Nets uniform. According to Brian Lewis of the New York Post, the controversial Nets star could play in his first (and maybe even his only) game of the season come February during the 2022 NBA All-Star Game:
When the NBA updated its All-Star voting process, all players on the rosters were put on the ballot. Both league and team sources indicated that because Irving is still on the Nets’ official roster — sent home but not suspended — he won’t be an exception, despite not having played a second for the Nets this season.
There’s no denying that Kyrie Irving is still one of the best point guards in the NBA today. Most will argue that skill-wise, he definitely deserves a spot on the All-Star team. The fact that he’s been fighting for his principles in terms of not getting vaccinated should also get him more All-Star votes from anti-vaxxers everywhere. Unlikely and bizarre as it may sound, it’s still a real possibility that Kyrie makes his one and only appearance this season during the All-Star Game, which incidentally, will also take place in Cleveland.

STAY IN THE GAME
