Ghana legend Nii Odartey Lamptey says nothing less than six points against Somalia will keep the Black Stars' AFCON 2027 hopes alive.
Ghana legend Nii Odartey Lamptey has issued a blunt message to the Black Stars: beat Somalia twice or watch the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations slip away. The former midfielder says maximum points in the coming double-header are the only way to rescue a qualifying campaign that has stumbled out of the blocks.
Ghana face Somalia in rounds three and four of the qualifiers, with the first game set for November 12 and the return leg four days later. Both fixtures are expected to be staged in Ghana, giving the Black Stars home advantage as they try to turn a disappointing start into a genuine push for the finals.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Lamptey left no room for doubt about what is at stake. In his view, victory in both matches is non-negotiable if Ghana want to reach the tournament. Once those six points are secured, he says, the focus can shift to the next challenge. He also called on the coaches entrusted with the job to do whatever it takes to deliver.
Lamptey also spoke about what the national team shirt means for players. He argued that international appearances can raise a player's profile and open new doors in their careers, a reminder that representing Ghana is both an honour and an opportunity.
For a four-time AFCON winner like Ghana, the pressure is on. Two games, six points, and a nation expecting the Black Stars to answer their critics on the pitch.
