Leicester Tigers have signed Samoa international Richie Asiata, bringing the Queensland Reds hooker to Welford Road.
Leicester Tigers have added fresh power to their front row, completing the signing of Samoa hooker Richie Asiata from Queensland Reds.
Asiata arrives as an international-level operator who has earned his stripes in Super Rugby and at Test level with Samoa. That experience should give the Tigers another option in a position where set-piece accuracy and work rate around the park can decide tight games.
Hookers carry a heavy load in the modern game. They must be reliable at the lineout, solid in the scrum, and active in the carry and tackle count. Leicester will be hoping Asiata can bring that all-round package to their squad as they chase success at home and in Europe.
The move also shows the pull of English club rugby for southern hemisphere talent. Asiata swaps Brisbane for the East Midlands, and Tigers fans will soon see what the Samoan can do at Welford Road.
