Liverpool's Naby Keita reportedly tests positive for coronavirus

Share

Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita has reportedly tested positive for the coronavirus at the Guinea national team camp ahead of their friendly match against the Gambia.

Reports in Guinea claim the 25-year-old has contracted COVID-19 and has entered self-isolation after testing positive on international duty.

Keita alongside Lokomotiv Moscow winger Francois Kamano, goalkeeper Ibrahima Kone, Moreirense midfielder Ibrahima Camara and Sochaux defender Florentin Pogba are the five players whose test results returned positive.

The news has been reported by a number of journalists in Africa, but is yet to be confirmed by the Guinea national team or Liverpool.

It means midfielder Keita will be unavailable for Saturday’s Merseyside derby against Everton.

Thiago Alcántara and Sadio Mané both tested positive before the international break and winger Xherdan Shaqiri also sparked concerns after testing positive, only to find out that was because he already had the antibodies for the virus.
