Makur Maker commits his future to Howard University

Share

Highly-rated basketball star Makur Maker has decided to commit to Howard University following a tug-of-war for his signature.

The 19-year-old had received offers from Kentucky, Memphis, UCLA and other college teams.

In a Twitter post on Friday, he said he chose the Howard University due to his links with the HBCU.

"I was the 1st to announce my visit to Howard & other started to dream “what if”," the teenager wrote.

"I need to make the HBCU movement real so that others will follow. I hope I inspire guys like Mikey Williams to join me on this journey. I am committing to Howard U & coach Kenny Blakeney."

Maker's guardian, Ed Smith, said the player felt at home when he paid his first official visit to the Howard University.

According to him, the five-star centre loves the program Howard are building and that influenced his commitment.

“He visited Howard. He felt like it was a family atmosphere there," Smith told 247Sports.

"It was his only official visit. They’re building a great program there. It’s a winning program. It’s an HBCU so there’s an opportunity to make a difference.”
