Defending champions Medeama bounce back to top the Ghana Premier League, while Port City shock Karela and Kotoko stumble again on the road.
The Ghanaian Premier League title race has a familiar leader again. Defending champions Medeama SC are back on top after a 1-0 win over Aduana FC at the TnA Stadium, bouncing back from their first defeat of the season against FC Samartex.
Nana Kofi Babil settled it in the 81st minute. The win lifts Medeama level on points with Hearts of Oak, though they stay ahead on goal difference. With the champions refusing to blink after that first slip, the pressure is now on the chasing pack.
The Ashanti Derby at the Len Clay Stadium lived up to the billing but ended 1-1. Boateng put FC AshantiGold 04 ahead in the 41st minute with a long-range effort that took a deflection. Patrick Asiedu answered for Asante Kotoko in the 63rd minute with a superb free-kick. Neither side found a late winner, and Kotoko are still waiting for their first away victory this season.
Port City FC, in their promotion-season campaign, produced one of the weekend's notable results with a 2-1 win over Karela United at the Aliu Mahama Stadium. Owusu Ansah opened the scoring in the 77th minute, and Iddi Mahfuz levelled for Karela three minutes from time. Ansah then struck again to snatch the points late and give the newcomers a big boost.
