Rookie offensive tackle Mekhi Becton has put pen to paper on a big-money deal with the New York Jets.
The 21-year-old signed a four-year contract estimated to be worth $18.45 million and is the No. 11 overall pick in the NFL draft.
The contract also includes a $10.98 million signing bonus, with Becton now expected to compete with George Fant for the left tackle spot.
Becton expressed his delight at the move, insisting he will produce his best form for the Jets.
"I'm clearly the most dominant guy on the field," the youngster told the team’s official website.
"I bring a strong edge. I always play with a chip on my shoulder. I promise you this chip is going to stay on my shoulder. It's not going anywhere. I'm going to keep playing like I never [got drafted]."
Meanwhile, Jets coach Adam Gase was also full of praise for his latest acquisition and hopes Becton will excel in the side.
“He brings an edge for us. He brings nasty to our offensive line room,” he said after the left tackle was drafted.
Becton is 6-foot-7, 365 pounds and has impressive speed for a man of his size.
The 21-year-old played both tackle spots for the Cardinals during his college career.
