Messi reaches 700 goals with strike against Atletico Madrid

Share

Barcelona star Lionel Messi reached 700 goals for club and country after scoring a penalty against Atletico Madrid.

The Catalans drew 2-2 with Diego Simeone’s men on Tuesday evening, but the Argentine was on the score sheet.

Messi cheekily scored from the penalty, opting for a Panenka, to draw Barcelona to put Barcelona 2-1 up.

While the goal was overall the 700th of his career, it was also the 33-year-old’s 630th in 724 appearance for the club.

The Argentina captain has had a very illustrious career, which has seen him win numerous trophies.

He has won the Uefa Champions League four times, as well as several other domestic trophies with the Blaugrana.

Messi is also a six-time recipient of the Ballon d’Or and has won the European Golden Show a record five times.

Meanwhile, the 2-2 draw with Atletico Madrid could prove costly for Barcelona, should rivals Real Madrid win their next game.
