Michael Jordan, Denny Hamlin form Nascar Cup Series team with Bubba Wallace as driver

NBA legend Michael Jordan has teamed up with Denny Hamlin to form a single-car Nascar Cup Series team.

The pair have also acquired the service of Bubba Wallace, who’s currently Nascar's sole black full-time driver.

Wallace has previously campaigned for the Confederate flag to be banned from Nascar races.

Jordan said he was "open more opportunities for black people in racing” insisting the team will "educate a new audience".

The six-time NBA champion was also confident that the time was right to form Nascar Cup Series team with Bubba as driver as the conversation for social justice continues.

"Historically, Nascar has struggled with diversity and there have been few black owners," said Jordan.

"The timing seemed perfect as Nascar is evolving and embracing social change more and more."

Meanwhile, Wallace also expressed his delight at his new move, describing it as a one-time opportunity.

"This is a unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I believe is a great fit for me at this point in my career,” he said.
