Mike Tyson targets knockout win over Roy Jones in comeback fight

Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson says he wants to knock out Roy Jones when they step in the ring next month.

The two boxing veterans will face off in an exhibition fight on September 12 in Los Angeles.

While the fight has received a lot of publicity, the head of the California State Athletic Commission recently stated that the two boxers will go easy on each other.

"This isn’t a situation where they’re going out there to try to take each other’s heads off,” CSAC executive director Andy Foster told Yahoo Sports.

“They’re just going to be in there moving around the ring and letting fans see these legends."

However, Iron Mike has dispelled such claims and insists he wants to knock out Jones when they meet.

"This is search and destroy and I’m looking forward to recapturing my glory," the 54-year-old said.

"If the opportunity comes, I'm always looking for it,” he added, when asked if he was targeting a knockout.

Tyson retired from boxing in 2005, having lost to Irishman Kevin McBride in what proved to be his exiting bout.

He bowed out as one of the greatest heavyweights of all time and, at a point, held the WBA, WBC, and IBF belts at the same time.

Jones, on the other hand, hanged his gloves as recently as 2018, when he beat Scott Sigmon in his last fight.

During a glittering career, Jones won titles in the middleweight, super-middleweight, light-heavyweight and heavyweight divisions.
