Dutch-Ghanaian forward Gabriel Misehouy struck first as NAC Breda beat JOS Watergraafsmeer 3-1 to advance in the KNVB Cup.
Dutch-Ghanaian forward Gabriel Misehouy is making his mark in European cup football. The 21-year-old opened the scoring for NAC Breda in their 3-1 win over JOS Watergraafsmeer, sending the club into the second round of the KNVB Cup.
Misehouy broke the deadlock in the 29th minute on Wednesday. He pounced on an error from the JOS goalkeeper and then stayed cool to put the ball into the net. NAC had started on the front foot, with captain Mohamed Nassoh hitting the woodwork early, but the hosts stayed in the contest and created several chances of their own.
JOS pulled level through Luca Polm shortly before the break, but NAC answered almost immediately. Paul Gladon restored the lead from close range after a delivery from Nassoh, and the visitors went into the interval 2-1 up.
The second half was a scrap, with JOS refusing to back down. NAC slowly took control after head coach Rick Kruys made a series of substitutions. Pepijn Reulen sealed it in the 84th minute, finishing after Boyd Lucassen worked his way into a dangerous area and picked out a good pass.
The result ends NAC's recent struggles in the opening round of the Dutch cup. For Misehouy, who joined on loan from Girona FC in August, the goal is a welcome boost as he looks to build momentum and keep making an impact in the Netherlands.
