Myles Turner chooses ‘Respect Us’ as his jersey statement for NBA restart

NBA star Myles Turner has opted for the message “Respect Us” as his jersey statement for the league restart.

The Indiana Pacers big man said he chose this message in order to educate ignorant people about NBA players.

According to him, there are some people who do not give players the respect they deserved and only see them as pieces to the game.

Speaking to via J. Michael of Indy Star, Turner said he wants to use his voice to change people’s opinions.

“I wasn’t exactly sure how I was going to use my voice, voice my opinions and the opinions of my people,” the Pacers center said,” he said.

“Educating ignorant people out there who really don’t know where we’re coming from. They see us as pieces to a game they just watch.

“We’re not just entertainment pieces. We’re more than just athletes… We deserve more respect as people.”

The 24-year-old nearly pulled out of the NBA bubble in Orlando after his father tested positive for Coronavirus.

His father has, however, since recovered from the disease, but Turner haboured doubts over the risks of rejoining the Pacers for the restart.
