William Oduro's late winner snaps a three-match losing run for coach-less Heart of Lions in a Ghana Premier League thriller in Kpando.
Heart of Lions are winning again in the Ghana Premier League. A late William Oduro goal gave them a 2-1 victory over Bechem United at the Kpando Sports Stadium in Week 9 and ended a run of three straight defeats.
The win was badly needed. The hosts have been without a permanent coach since Kasim Gokyldez left last week, and they had lost their previous two home games. They started nervously, and defender Abdul Jalilu had to make a timely clearance early on to keep the visitors out.
The Lions settled and went ahead around the midway point of the first half through Stephen Afoakwa. His fine finish was his second goal in as many matches. But the lead did not bring much confidence. Bechem sensed their chance and pushed forward, and veteran forward Augustine Okrah levelled just before the break.
The Lions came out stronger after the restart, and Oduro rattled the woodwork with a powerful effort. Both coaches made changes, and Heart of Lions sent on more attacking players to chase the win. That gamble paid off when Oduro struck late to settle it and lift the mood in Kpando.
