Ghana U-23 boss Desmond Ofei is fully convinced the Black Meteors will end a two-decade Olympic drought at Los Angeles 2028.
Ghana's Black Meteors have a coach who refuses to hedge his bets. Desmond Ofei, the U-23 head coach, says he is 100 per cent sure the country will qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, ending a wait that stretches back to 2004.
The next test comes in the second round of the African qualifiers, where Ghana will face Libya. A win would keep alive the dream of returning to the men's Olympic football tournament for the first time in more than 20 years.
Ofei shared his optimism after watching Hearts of Oak beat Basake Holy Stars at the University of Ghana Stadium on Saturday. In his view, the timing is right. The drought has lasted far too long, preparations are going well, and the players are desperate to show what this generation can do.
The coach says the squad wants to prove that Ghana's wealth of young talent is real and that the country belongs among the best footballing nations on the continent. He promised the team will do everything in its power to get past Libya and stay on course for LA.
Bold words bring pressure, but Ofei seems happy to carry it. Now the Black Meteors have to turn that belief into results on the pitch.
