Black Meteors boss Desmond Ofei guarantees Ghana will book a 2028 Olympic ticket, with a tough second-round tie against Libya looming.
Ghana's Black Meteors are chasing a long-awaited return to the Olympic stage, and head coach Desmond Ofei is leaving no room for doubt. He says the team will qualify for the 2028 Games, and the road runs through a second-round showdown with Libya.
The first leg takes place in Libya during the November 9-17 international window. The return leg follows in Ghana, where the Meteors will hope to finish the job in front of their own fans.
Ofei spoke to reporters after watching Hearts of Oak beat Basake Holy Stars at the University of Ghana Stadium on Saturday. He did not hedge. "100 per cent" Ghana will qualify, he said, adding that the time feels right after an absence from the men's Olympic football tournament that has dragged on for far too long.
The coach says preparations are going well and that his squad is hungry. In his view, these players have a chance to show the nation, and the continent, that Ghana's talent pipeline is as rich as ever and that the country belongs among Africa's best footballing nations.
Now the talking has to turn into results. Libya will be no pushover over two legs, but Ofei's belief is clear: this Black Meteors group is ready to write a new chapter for Ghanaian football.
