Ghanaian-heritage forward Kirsten Otchere found the net as Cheltenham held off a second-half Fleetwood surge to win a six-goal League Two classic.
English-Ghanaian forward Kirsten Otchere put his name on the scoresheet as Cheltenham Town beat Fleetwood Town 4-2 in a wild League Two encounter at the Completely-Suzuki Stadium. The Leicester City loanee struck in the 25th minute to double the hosts' lead and set the tone for a dominant opening half.
Cheltenham went ahead in the 17th minute when Fleetwood goalkeeper Jay Lynch turned the ball into his own net. Otchere then made it 2-0 eight minutes later, and Jake Evans added a third in the 39th minute. The hosts went into the break with a commanding three-goal cushion.
Fleetwood came out fighting after the restart. Ched Evans scored in the 50th minute and again in the 65th, the second from the penalty spot, to cut the gap to 3-2 and put Cheltenham under real pressure. Freddie Willcox settled the nerves with a goal in the 80th minute, ending the visitors' comeback hopes.
The win is a major lift for Cheltenham, who now turn to their next League Two test against Newport County on October 24. For Otchere, the strike is a welcome moment in a loan spell that has seen him make 11 league appearances and score one goal so far, as the young forward continues to build his game away from Leicester City.
