Premier League returns with nearly £800m spent on new signings

The Premier League returns on Saturday, September 12, 2020, with Arsenal set to travel to Fulham for the opening league fixture.

Undoubtedly the most exciting league in the world, the English topflight has also spent more than any other league in the world.

So far, about £800 million has been spent on signings, with Chelsea leading as the biggest spenders.

The Blues have acquired the services of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werna, Thiago Silva, Kai Havertz, and other players.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have also signed Van de Beek from Ajax and are still looking to add Jadon Sancho to the club’s summer signings.

Liverpool and Manchester City have been a bit quiet, but Everton seems to be in buzz after signing James Rodrigues and Allan.

The Coronavirus pandemic may have taken a bit of the spark from the game, but the 2020-21 Premier League season will definitely be one of the most exciting in recent years.

As was the case for the latter part of last season, though, no spectators will be allowed to enter the stadiums.

But for the first time, every Premier League game in September will be telecast live on television.

There have also been some changes, as players will now come out of the tunnel to new walk-on music for the pre-game rituals.

There will still be no handshakes, but the ball will be rounder than it was last season.

There are also changes in how the Premier League applies VAR. Now, referees will have to use the monitor to confirm changes to “subjective” calls.

Meanwhile, the shoulder is not part of the arm, and assistant refs must keep their flags down until the opposition player gets his shot away or encroaches.

STAY IN THE GAME
