Prince Amukamara foresees ‘flourishing’ career with Raiders

Cornerback Prince Amukamara has expressed his happiness after securing a move to the Las Vegas Raiders. The 30-year-old joined the Silver and Black as a free agent following a successful three-year stint with the Chicago Bears.

Amukamara put pen to paper on a one-year deal with the Raiders estimated to be worth $1 million, as he prepares to enter his 10th NFL season. The veteran cornerback believes he is a perfect fit for Paul Guenther’s “aggressive” defence and looks forward to a flourishing career alongside his new teammates.

“With Paul’s defense, I followed him when he was at Cincinnati and you can see the guys are aggressive, and he likes for his guys to press and I think that’s where I flourish,” Amukamara said, as quoted by team reporter Kyle Martin.

“I’m one of, if not the best, corners in press, man-to-man coverage in the league and I have the tape to show that, which is why I’m saying that so boldly.”

The newly-signed Raiders CB boasts some impressive statistics from his previous stint with the Chicago Bears. He started all 15 games for the Bears last season, churning out a commendable 53 tackles and 10 passes defended.

Amukamara believes working with Guenther, who has been the defensive coordinator for the Raiders for the past two seasons, would bring out the best in him. Describing his new defensive coordinator, the CB said: “[Guenther] seems like he’s the kind of guy that likes to attack, he doesn’t sit back and wait for the game to come to him.
“You like that as a defensive player because you know you have a guy who’s going to send pressure and who’s going to take it, and put you in a position to make those plays,” he added.
Amukamara previously spent four years at the New York Giants, joined the Jacksonville Jaguars for a single season in 2016, before moving to the Chicago Bears, where he played until 2019.
