Wet weather at St George's Park has stalled the Proteas' second Test against Australia, with play unlikely for the first couple of hours.
The Proteas will have to wait to continue their second Test against Australia, with persistent rain in Gqeberha holding up day two at St George's Park. The scheduled 10am local start has gone, and the early start organisers had hoped for is also off the table.
The delay comes after a short but eventful opening day in which only 12.2 overs were bowled. Even so, plenty happened in that brief window, and Australia's Scott Boland was again at the centre of it. The seamer has become one of the more quietly admired figures in the Test game, known for his humility as much as his bowling.
One oddity from the first day was that Cricket Australia put nobody forward to speak to the media afterwards. That is highly unusual, and it leaves the visitors' thinking on a curtailed day unexplained.
The forecast is expected to improve later in the day, so there is still hope of some action. Little is likely in the first couple of hours, though, and the loss of the morning session had already been anticipated. For South Africa, every overs-bowled counts in a series that puts African cricket on a major stage, and the Proteas will want the skies to clear so they can get back to work.
