Jonny DeLuca and Ben Williamson delivered in the 12th as Tampa Bay beat Milwaukee 4-3 to force Game 5 and keep its title hopes alive.
The Tampa Bay Rays refused to go quietly. On Tuesday night they pulled off a late comeback to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 in 12 innings, forcing a Game 5 in the World Series and denying Milwaukee a championship-clinching sweep.
The Brewers looked to be on the verge of finishing it. Cooper Pratt, already with three hits on the night, launched a tiebreaking home run off Ian Seymour in the top of the 12th. That was his fourth hit of the game and put Milwaukee up 3-2, one half-inning from a 4-0 series win and the first World Series title in franchise history.
Tampa Bay answered in the bottom of the inning. Jonny DeLuca came through with an RBI, and pinch-hitter Ben Williamson followed with another to complete the rally and send the home crowd into a frenzy. The Rays had been one loss from elimination, and they turned a deficit into a win with the season on the line.
Milwaukee still leads the best-of-seven series 3-1 and will get another chance to close it out in Game 5. After a loss like this, though, the Brewers have to shake off a crushing finish, and the Rays have momentum and a reason to believe a comeback in the series is possible.
