Ronaldinho out, Maguire found guilty of assault, resisting arrest and attempted bribery

Brazil legend Ronaldinho and Manchester United captain Harry Maguire have both faced separate court cases this week.

Ronaldinho was released from house arrest on Monday, having been arrested in Paraguay for entering the country with a fake passport earlier this year.

The former Barcelona and AC Milan star was handed a suspended sentence of two years in prison by judge Gustavo Amarilla and granted bail.

The retired footballer and his brother Roberto de Assis Moreira – both were arrested in Paraguay – have also been handed a fine of $200,000 (£151,700).

While Ronaldinho is now out of trouble, the same cannot be said for Maguire who was arrested in Greece over the weekend.

The 27-year-old was apprehended after an alleged spat with Greek police, where the defender is reportedly to have assaulted the officers.

He has since been found guilty of charges of aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and repeated attempts of bribery.

Maguire, his brother Joe Maguire and their friend Christopher Sharman were all found guilty after a trial in Syros.

Meanwhile, the England center-back immediately released a statement saying he will appeal the court decision after pleading not guilty.

“Following the hearing today, I have instructed my legal team with immediate effect to inform the courts we will be appealing,” the statement said.

“I remain strong and confident regarding our innocence in this matter - if anything myself, family and friends are the victims.”
