Sadio Mane equals Mohamed Salah record in Liverpool thrashing of Crystal Palace

Share

Sadio Mane registered his name into the history books on Wednesday night after Liverpool saw off Crystal Palace 4-0 on Wednesday to edge closer to the Premier League title.

The Senegalese winger was on target after receiving a nice through ball from Mohamed Salah, and raced past the Crystal Palace defence to cap it off with a clinical finish in the 69th minute.

The 27-year old Senegalese’s strike meant he had scored for the sixth consecutive Premier League game against Palace, equalling the same feat set by his teammate Salah against Bournemouth.

As a gesture of solidarity, Sadio Mane took a knee for the Black Lives Matter movement that has been gathering momentum around the world.

The other goals were scored by Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Fabinho.

Mane’s goals against Palace has resulted in victories for Liverpool both home and away since his streak began during the 2017-18 season.

He has so far netted 78 times and provided 34 assists in 163 appearances for Liverpool.

The former Salzburg man now has 15 goals for the season in the English top-flight, four strikes shy of the leading marksman Jamie Vardy. Overall Mane has 19 goals and 12 assists in 40 competitive outings.

Liverpool’s victory on Wednesday night means

Liverpool have a comfortable lead in the Premier League standings with 86 points to their name. Their victory on Wednesday means they could be crowned champions for the first time in 30 years should Manchester City fail to beat Chelsea on Thursday night.

If Manchester City beat Chelsea, then Liverpool will need a point at the Etihad Stadium to clinch the title on Thursday, July 2.
