Medeama's new forward Safianu Usman bagged his first goal for the club in a hard-earned 1-1 draw at Asante Kotoko, and coach Ibrahim Tanko is delighted.
The Ghana Premier League has a new name to watch. Safianu Usman scored his first Medeama goal in Kumasi, earning the Mauve and Yellow a 1-1 draw with Asante Kotoko, one of the toughest away trips in Ghanaian football.
Coach Ibrahim Tanko was quick to praise the summer signing but kept the focus on the collective. He said the squad is prepared equally, so it matters little who scores as long as everyone knows their role. He still singled Usman out for finding the net against such big opposition, and called the point they brought home "very good".
Usman arrived from Hohoe United, now defunct, in the off-season. Scoring against the Porcupine Warriors so early in his Medeama career is a strong statement, and it shows he can handle the pressure of a title push.
The result adds to Medeama's strong start to the campaign as they stay in the title conversation. Next up is a home date with Swedru All Blacks at the TNA Stadium on Sunday, November 8, in Matchday 10. Tanko's men will want to turn the Kumasi momentum into three points in front of their own fans.
