Ghanaian-English midfielder Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu set up a goal as Salford City won a six-goal thriller at Walsall to stay top of League Two.
English-Ghanaian midfielder Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu was among the key figures as Salford City won 4-2 away at Walsall in League Two on Monday night. The 26-year-old created one of the goals at the Bescot Stadium and helped keep Salford's winning run going.
Macaulay Langstaff put the visitors ahead just before the break. Early in the second half, Sarpong-Wiredu played his part in the move that led to Jorge Grant doubling the lead in the 54th minute.
Walsall refused to go quietly. Aaron Pressley and Liam Simper both scored to level the match and put Salford under real pressure. The visitors regrouped, though. Kallum Cesay restored their lead, and Adebola Oluwo sealed the points in the 82nd minute.
The win strengthens Salford's position at the top of the League Two table as they push for promotion. Sarpong-Wiredu has now made 12 league appearances this season, with two goals and an assist, which shows how important he is in their midfield.
Salford will look to build on this result when they host Exeter City in their next league fixture on October 31.
