English-Ghanaian forward Sean Adarkwa found the net and set up another goal as Woking beat Birmingham City U21 3-1 to reach the National League Cup last eight.
English-Ghanaian forward Sean Adarkwa starred for Woking, scoring one goal and creating another in a 3-1 victory over Birmingham City U21 that sent the Cards into the National League Cup quarter-finals.
The hosts were quick out of the blocks at the Laithwaite Community Stadium. Adarkwa set up academy graduate Tom Dryer in the third minute, and Dryer rounded the goalkeeper before slotting home the opener. Eight minutes later, Dryer turned provider, teeing up Liam Dulson, whose low finish beat the Birmingham keeper and doubled the lead.
Birmingham pulled one back early in the second half. Menzi Mazwi pounced on a mistake in possession to make it 2-1 and briefly threatened to turn the game around.
Adarkwa had the answer. In the 62nd minute he found the net himself to restore Woking's two-goal cushion and put the hosts firmly in control. From there, Woking managed the closing stages well to see out the win.
The result extends the Cards' winning run to two matches in all competitions, and Adarkwa's contribution will give the Ghanaian-heritage attacker plenty of confidence as Woking move on in the competition.
