Semenyo Signs Off in Style with a Late Winner Ahead of Man City Move

Antoine Semenyo signed off from Bournemouth in storybook fashion on Wednesday night, scoring a dramatic late winner to end the Cherries’ 11-game winless run and cap what is expected to be his final appearance for the club.

The Ghana international struck in the closing minutes to seal a thrilling 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, sparking emotional scenes at the Vitality Stadium as supporters hailed a player who has grown into one of Bournemouth’s most influential figures in recent seasons.

That goal now looks set to be Semenyo’s farewell, with Manchester City having triggered his €65 million release clause ahead of the winter transfer window.

Head coach Andoni Iraola was full of praise for the forward after the Tottenham win, describing the timing and manner of his exit as richly deserved.

“It’s a fairytale ending. Football sometimes gives you something back if you’re really committed. He’s one of the best players I’ve ever coached,” Iraola said.

The Spaniard went on to highlight Semenyo’s professionalism and mentality throughout his time on the south coast, especially amid the uncertainty surrounding his future.

“It’s not easy to do what he has done. Most players, a lot of players would have acted differently. He has never found excuses, he was ready to give whatever we needed.

“We pushed a lot to keep him until the last second here and I think it is fair that he leaves with the feeling he has had at the end, with the sub, with the reception of the supporters. I think he has earned all this. I am very happy for him because we know he is a top player but especially a top person,” Iraola explained.

Semenyo leaves Bournemouth after four memorable years in which he established himself as a key part of Iraola’s success.

He made 110 appearances for the club, scoring 32 goals and providing 11 assists across all competitions.

During that spell, he also reached a personal milestone, becoming the eighth Ghanaian player to make 100 appearances in the Premier League.

Manchester City are expected to complete the deal swiftly, with the 26-year-old scheduled to undergo a medical and sign his contract on Thursday.
