Senegal's AFCON Title Fight Goes to the Wire as CAS Eyes Late November Ruling

Senegal must wait until the end of November to learn whether CAS will overturn Morocco's 2025 AFCON crown.

Senegal's bid to reclaim the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations crown is now in the hands of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and the Teranga Lions faithful have to hold their breath a little longer. CAS has confirmed that its ruling on Senegal's appeal against Morocco being awarded the title is expected at the end of November.

The appeal was heard behind closed doors at CAS headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Thursday, 8 October. With the hearing done, the arbitration panel has moved into deliberations, weighing the arguments put before it. No details of those discussions have been made public, and CAS has not signalled which way it is leaning.

At the heart of the dispute is the decision to hand Morocco the continental title, a call Senegal is challenging through the global sports arbitration body. Both nations are now waiting on a verdict that could carry major consequences for African football, from the record books to the wider debate on how continental competitions are governed.

Until the panel delivers its decision in the final days of November, the title remains under a cloud of uncertainty. Whether the ruling upholds Morocco's crown or opens the door for Senegal, all eyes across the continent will be on Lausanne.
