Serena Williams’ chase for 24th grand slam on after victory over Kristie Ahn

Serena Williams made light work of Kristie Ahn after recording a win over her opponent in straight sets in the US Open.

Williams put up a dominant performance against her fellow American, coasting to a 7-5 6-3 victory.

The win means the 38-year-old is on track to equal Margaret Court's record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles.

Despite her opponent being ranked 96 in the world, she gave a good account of herself and nearly snatched the first set.

"I was really happy with how I fought for every point," Williams said in the aftermath of the game.

"No matter how I was playing, I just had to get my Serena focus back so that was what I was working on today."

Many tennis players have pulled out of this year’s US Open due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Williams bemoaned the lack of fans at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, but said her passion is enough to see her through.

"It's quiet. It's such a good stadium. It's a Grand Slam and I think I'm still as passionate and intense out there.

"I love my job. I love what I do. You can't do it forever even though I've kind of been doing it just over forever. One of these days it's going to end and I love being out here,” she added.
