Born to a German mother and Nigerian father, Ex Germany footballer Sidney Sam has disclosed that he regretted he did not represent his father's country Nigeria in the international stage.

Sam plays for Germany's under-19 and under-20 teams. On 29 May 2013, he made his senior international debut for Germany in a friendly game against Ecuador in Boca Raton, Florida.

He was named to the 30-man provisional squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup by German national team manager, Joachim Löw.

According to formal Schalke 04 star, although he nearly won the world cup with Germany, he would be happy if he play for Nigeria.

"Looking back I can say I was close to winning the world cup with Germany. Maybe I would have played in it if I had accepted the chance offered by Nigeria.

"My regret yes, but in life when you make a decision you live with the consequences," Sidney Sam explained.

The 32-year-old was born to a German mother and Nigerian father, Sam would have been eligible to play for the Nigeria national team, but decided early on to represent his country of birth.

The German-born has represented Germany five times but failed to score a goal.Because of his style of play, many refer to him as Dutch winger Arjen Robben.
