Austin Smotherman wins his second PGA Tour title, beating Seamus Power in a Monday play-off after weather chaos at the Bermuda Championship.
Austin Smotherman has his second PGA Tour trophy. He beat Seamus Power in a Monday play-off at the Bermuda Championship, an event that never settled into a normal rhythm because of the weather.
The tournament spilled past its scheduled Sunday finish, and the delay left the two men to settle things on a Monday. Smotherman and Power were still level when regulation ended, so it came down to extra holes, with the title and the pressure on the line.
Smotherman handled that pressure better. Power, the Irish veteran, gave him a proper fight, but Smotherman got over the line to add a second PGA Tour win to his résumé.
For Smotherman, the win confirms he can close under difficult conditions. Bermuda tested players' patience as much as their games, and he was the one still standing when the play-off ended.
