Swansea City forward Joseph Opoku has been named in Ghana's U-23 squad for the AFCON qualifier against Libya after a fast start in the Championship.
Ghana's Black Meteors have a fresh weapon from Wales. Swansea City forward Joseph Opoku has been called up to Desmond Ofei's 23-man squad for the two-legged U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya, with a place at the 2027 tournament in Egypt on the line.
The 21-year-old is one of eight foreign-based players in the group, and his selection follows a strong introduction to English football. Opoku joined Swansea from Belgian side Zulte Waregem in July 2026 on a four-year deal, and he has settled quickly in the Championship.
He has contributed to five goals in 12 appearances, with the standout display coming in Swansea's 4-0 win over Blackburn Rovers, where he scored and set up another. That showing put him in the Championship Team of the Week. Before the move, he helped Zulte Waregem win promotion in Belgium and ended his time there with 10 goals and five assists.
Now comes the chance to bring that form to the national team. The first leg takes place on Wednesday, November 11, in Benghazi, and Ghana will need to be sharp in what promises to be a tough away assignment. If Opoku carries his Swansea confidence into the squad, the Black Meteors could have a real difference-maker in attack.
