A Swiss special prosecutor has launched criminal proceedings against the head of FIFA, Gianni Infantino.
This reportedly relates to the FIFA boss’ alleged dealings with Swiss Attorney General Michael Lauber.
Lauber is accused of covering up a meeting with Infantino while some FIFA executives were being investigated.
The Swiss Attorney General is also said to have deceived his supervisors on the matter, before offering to resign last week.
The special prosecutor Stefan Keller, was subsequently appointed early in July to review criminal complaints against Infantino and Lauber.
After weeks of investigations, the prosecutor found clues of criminal conduct related to the meetings of the pair.
The possible infractions include abuse of public office, assisting offenders, breach of official secrecy and incitement to these acts.
Meanwhile, FIFA President Infantino said he is ready to "co-operate fully with this investigation".
"As president of Fifa, it has been my aim from day one, and it remains my aim, to assist the authorities with investigating past wrongdoings at Fifa,” he said in a statement.
“Fifa officials have met with prosecutors in other jurisdictions across the world for exactly these purposes."
