Team Nigeria Shines at the ITTF World Para Future in Jordan

Nigeria once again proved its dominance in para table tennis, delivering a standout performance at the ITTF World Para Future tournament held in Amman, Jordan.

Competing against athletes from 12 countries, including Egypt, Germany, India, and host nation Jordan, Team Nigeria emerged as one of the top-performing nations—finishing among the top three overall. The squad secured a total of 14 medals, including five gold, seven silver, and two bronze.

Three standout athletes—Olufemi Alabi, Faith Obazuaye, and Bolawa Akingbemisilu—struck gold in the singles events. Alabi clinched Nigeria’s first gold in Men’s Class 10, while Obazuaye triumphed in Women’s Class 9-10, and Akingbemisilu took the top spot in Men’s Class 4-5, both winning their finals against fellow Nigerians Isau Ogunkinleand Kehinde Lawal.

On the tournament’s final day (Tuesday, April 15), Abiola Adesope and Tajudeen Agunbiade added to Nigeria’s medal tally with a 3-1 victory in the Men’s Doubles Classes 14-18. The fifth gold came in the Mixed Doubles Classes 17-18, where Alabi and Obazuaye teamed up for another commanding win.

Head coach Nosiru Sule praised the team’s overall performance, emphasizing the players’ talent and commitment. He also urged greater investment and support ahead of the African and World Championships later this year.

Sule extended his appreciation to the National Sports Commission (NSC), led by Chairman Umar Dikko and Director General Bukonla Olopade, for their support in funding the team’s participation.

Among other African nations at the event, Egypt claimed a single gold medal through Sayed Youssef, who won the Men’s Singles Classes 6-7.
