Thomas Partey's Atletico Madrid stunned by Leipzig in Champions League

Share

Thomas Partey was an unused substitute as his Atletico Madrid side were stunned 2-1 by Leipzig on Thursday in the UEFA Champions League quarter finals clash.

An 88th-minute winner by Tyler Adams means that Leipzig, founded just 11 years ago by energy drink giant Red Bull, have earned a showdown with Paris Saint-Germain in the semi finals.

Leipzig broke the deadlock shortly after half time when Olmo headed Marcel Sabitzer's cross across Jan Oblak and into the far corner.

Joao Felox who came on in the second half won a penalty following a one-two with Diego Costa on the edge of the box. After being taken down by Lukas Klostermann himself, the Portuguese forward stepped up and converted the penalty to equalise.

Leipzig, though, weathered the storm and slowly swung the game back in their favour, retaking the lead through Adams' deflected strike just a couple of minutes from time.
